Calcium Propionate
Calcium propionate acts as a mould inhibitor, extending the shelf life of feed. The antimicrobial properties combat fungal growth, enhancing feed hygiene and supports animal health contributing to overall well-being in animals.
Calcium Propionate, a calcium salt of propionic acid formed by the reaction of Calcium Hydroxide & Propionic Acid. Calcium Propionate reduces the possibility of mould & aerobic sporulation bacterial development in feeds. It maintains the nutritional value & elongates the period of feed products, extending the shelf life of animal feed.
Calcium Propionate – volatile, small, high temperature, animal adaptation, and suitable for various animal feed uses.
Note: It is a GRAS-approved food preservative. **Generally Recognized as Safe by FDA (As per cGMP 21 CFR Para184.1081

- Reduce heat stress effects
- Increase digestion in the digestive tract
- Improve health (such as less ketosis, reduce acidosis, or improve immune response
- Useful aid in preventing milk fever in cows
Recommended Dosage of Calcium Propionate
Recommended dose is about 110-115 gm/day per animal.
Recommended doses for the administration of Calcium Propionate in Pigs are 30 gm/Kg diet per day & for Ruminants 40 gm/Kg diet per day. It can be used to treat acetonemia (Ketosis) in dairy cattle.
Poultry Feed & Livestock Management
Calcium propionate acts as a mold inhibitor, extends the shelf life of feed, helps inhibit aflatoxin production, helps prevent second fermentation in silage, and helps improve deteriorated feed quality.
For poultry feed supplementation, the recommended doses of Calcium Propionate are from 2.0 – 8.0 gm/kg diet.
The amount of calcium Propionate used in livestock depends on the moisture content of the protected material. Typical dosages range from 1.0 – 3.0 kg/ton of feed.
